What will change in Healthcare
I like there is talk about changing the healthcare system. I just wonder what does it mean? I keep thinking to the insurance companies it means everyone will have to buy insurance. A boon for them and a burden for those who will be forced to choose a policy that may not provide much. In Massachusetts, the plans available have high deductibles and copays. What do you get? It can be said, there is access to medical care. Yes, it is true you can pick a primary care doctor. But which doctors will accept these new insurances? Will there be a reasonable reimbursement for the practices? Maybe but if the insurance companies are driving the market then the medical profession will be at their mercy. Is this system viable? I guess the question that comes to my mind , Is healthcare a right? If I believe it is a right, then what does it mean? I can't say I have any answers except there has to be a deep cultural change for healthcare services to be equal. Everyone is afraid of the concept of healthcare for all. I embrace it but wonder how it can work in this country. I want cancer patients to have access to all treatments not just those deemed acceptable by insurance companies. I want healthcare to become a light of hope and help for all who need it. I want the Hippocratic Oath to mean something. I want the payment system to be reasonable and equitable across the board. A girl can dream.
