Insurance policies
Recently I have been working with clients who are having insurance problems. Each policy is different and it is important to read it completely. The problem is when you get sick, you often think you will be covered and are too overwhelmed to think about it. The truth is, you may be covered even if the insurance company sends you a refusal. I have found often enough, that is the game. Many times, the insurance company is hoping, the client will just roll over and pay. Many people do. But I have found continuous calls and getting information will get you somewhere. I know I have written about this before but I can't emphasis it enough. I find with no doesn't always mean no. Most important is to know what your policy states. When my brother recently called his insurance to straighten out a medication change, he was told the prescription was written for once a day instead of twice. Now, my brother has been taking the same medication for 10 years. The doctor knows how to write his prescription. He had to then spend time calling the doctor's office and getting the prescription refaxed. As an advocate, I spend many hours on the phone with insurance companies recovering paid funds and getting proper reimbursements. I actually enjoy doing it. It is a challenge and I know I am going to get the job done. It does help to have someone else make the call. It shows the insurance company you are serious about getting what you need. Remember, NO can mean YES!
