Heartbreaking
Lately, I have been hearing a similar story from many prospective clients. the story starts with a I have an illness and I need a specific treatment. The insurance company is denying me payment and I can't afford the bill. OR the hospital said it would cover the difference and give me a large discount and now they are refusing OR I have no insurance and am being overcharged. I think I will give up. In essence, either the insurance company or hospital are delivering a death sentence to the person. I am asked can I help? The answer is yes I can! An advocate's job is to clear roadblocks and have the correct machinery to get the job done. My heart breaks every time I hear a story like the ones mentioned. I am sure the insurance company or hospital feels justified in the denial but I know it is about the financial bottom line and necessary profits of the company. I just don't believe it is socialistic to want the insurance companies to be more responsible and not be handing out death sentences. I also don't understand why is there not more outrage in the media? We have the death penalty on the books and when someone is being put to death there is a huge outcry from both sides. Every day many people are hearing the news sorry we can't help you and now you can die! Where is Oprah when you need her? Actually I don't think Oprah could impact the insurance companies.
I would advise anyone who finds themselves or a family member in this situation to contact the State attorney General's office for help. And call an advocate.
