Preexisting Name Change: Now Congenital Conditions
The health reform law should do away with preexisting conditions as a reason for denying health coverage. I have been wondering how the insurance companies are going to get around being able to deny some people coverage. I heard it today from United Healthcare. Any congenital illness will not be covered. The policy has already been implemented. The parameters of congenital illness are very broad and loosely defined. If a person was born with ANY medical problem, United will not cover it. If you fail to disclose, the medical problem even if it was resolved or needs limited followup, you can be dropped from policy. My thinking is premature birth could be considered a congenital illness and any problems like respiratory difficulties will be denied coverage. Why is it allowed to be implemented by the state? Where is the outrage? I am outraged and I want everyone else to be outraged. I had a call from a someone who was trying to renew the same insurance policy. United said no renewal because it now does not cover any congenital illnesses (heart defect). As a medical professional and a health advocate, I can see no justification for this policy. How will this contain healthcare cost? The ER will be busier and stretched because of the congenitally uninsured.
